SmartIC
Are you an EDIH? Yes.
City: Tallinn, Estonia.
Description:
The DIH SmartIC (Smart Industry Centre) was established in 2017 with the purpose of bringing together the distributed infra-structures of research and development related to smart production in Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), other universities and SME-s in the fields of mechanics, mechanical engineering, automation, mechatronics, materials engineering and ICT.
Focus areas of SmartIC involve preparation, manufacturing and quality control of complex prototypes; development of digital twins and virtual and augmented reality (VR&AR) solutions in manufacturing; AI based industrial robotics; self-driving vehicles in production logistics; predictive maintenance and optimization of smart manufacturing; safe and sustainable energy solutions for smart industry.
The SmartIC has been recognised both in research and in society for 3D metal printing novel solutions, self-driving robot platforms development, smart grid solutions development and advancement in robot control through virtual reality environment and digital twins. By being digitally connected, the DIH doesn’t require offices or actual facilities from where the project is being managed or coordinated. Specifically for the project, the TalTech will make use of its SmartIC research infrastructure https://smartic.ee/, a recognized DIH in the JRC’s catalogue of DIH. This includes also its FMS & Robotics Demo Centre and selfdriving robot platforms laboratory, but also industrial VR/AR laboratory IVAR https://ivar.taltech.ee/ The infrastructure enables shared digital infrastructure through VR, and technology for robots and FMS digital twins development and control. SmartIC main services: testbed for self-driving robot platforms, IIot and smart grid solutions, and AI solutions for smart manufacturing. The core infrastructure of SmartIC is including also the ohter relevant laboratories of TalTech and the Estonian University of Life Sciences: Flexible Manufacturing System and Robotics Demo-Centre, the Laboratory of Mechanical Testing and Metrology, ProtoLab, CT Laboratory, Measurement Laboratory, Industrial Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Laboratory (IVAR), Self-driving Vehicles https://autolab.taltech.ee/ and Autonomous Systems Laboratory (ISEAUTO) https://iseauto.taltech.ee/en/ and Acoustic Testing Laboratory. In the course of development, the distributed infrastructure has been expanded by smart workplace technologies to virtualise the connected laboratories by VR/AR means and allow the remote operation of devices.
